What began as a warm-hearted television series has evolved into something truly cinematic. So, does this third feature film takes us on its boldest adventure yet?
Our beloved team Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma and Everest find themselves washed up after a storm on a mysterious forgotten island where dinosaurs still roam. The gang are armed with brand-new, hard-hitting gear and have maintained the signature courage we’ve come to cherish. Along their journey they make wonderful prehistoric friends, while facing challenges that test their teamwork, and bravery in ways they’ve never experienced before.
Over numerous years spent watching stories unfold on the big screen, I can tell you this is family filmmaking done right. The animation is vibrant and alive, the colours practically leap from the screen and as for the sound design, it wraps right around you like a warm embrace as though you’re in live musical theatre.
It’s bright, it’s energetic, and it will grab the imagination of audiences young and old. The voiceover cast is made up of an extraordinary, talented group of well known personalities, including special sparkle from Jennifer Hudson, Jameela Jamil and the legendary Snoop Dogg, all bringing wonderful life to every scene. There’s even a brand-new song from the Backstreet Boys whom I recall very clearly from my youth.
If I’m being honest, the actual storyline is more than somewhat similar to previous family movies, in that you can often see what’s coming just around the corner, with some scenes feeling predictable. Nevertheless does that really matter when the heart creating this is so gigantic?
Overall you’ll feel that warm glow in your heart, reminding you that this is one of the things cinema is for – bringing different generations together and leaving us all feeling capable, kind, and ready to help one another. After all, the point about certain family films is that they are not just catering for children, but for the inner child of the adults accompanying them. And one memorable thing you’ll get from this movie is that courage comes in all shapes and sizes, and sometimes, the smallest heroes have the biggest hearts.
