Review by Carlie Newman
Well, it has the same main actors who deliver good characterisations of the characters they played in the original and the chemistry between the ensemble is fine. What it lacks is the bite, the satire that was present in the original version.
It’s particularly noticeable in Meryl Streep’s character. While she is, as usual, impressive, Streep’s character lacks the acerbic quality that we so enjoyed in the first film.
We find Andrea , ‘Andy’ (Anne Hathaway) now working as a reporter. When she and the rest of the staff lose their jobs, she returns to working for Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) in the fashion industry. Miranda herself is in trouble and could lose her job. She and Andy come back in contact with with former co-worker, Emily (Emily Blunt) who is involved in a corporate plot to take over Miranda‘s magazine. Miranda is also supported by her longtime assistant, Nigel.(Stanley Tucci.).
Although lacking the tongue in cheek wit of the original, the film is a lot of fun with, as expected, gorgeous dresses. As a light comedy, it’s most enjoyable.
