Opening nationwide last Friday on 515 screens, the film quickly built momentum as audiences embraced its warm humour, big laughs and celebration of Britain’s pub culture. After taking £707,534 in its opening weekend, strong word-of-mouth from cinema-goers has continued to drive packed screenings throughout the week.
Cinema-goers have been quick to share their enthusiasm for the film’s heart, humour and unmistakably British charm.
“It’s exactly the kind of film you want to watch with a pint – the whole cinema was laughing,” said one audience member after a Friday night screening.
Another viewer said:
“A proper feel-good British comedy. Everyone came out smiling.”
The spirit of the film has even spilled into the aisles. At one screening in the South West, enthusiastic fans reportedly broke into Morris dancing during the closing scenes, mirroring the traditional dancing featured in the film.
The film has also proven to be one of the biggest starts for a British film this year; it is the highest debut of 2026 with UK as the primary territory of origin, ahead of films including Giant (£371k), Wasteman (£331k) and H Is For Hawk (£274k).”
Directed by Nick Moorcroft and starring Martin Clunes, James Buckley, Jonno Davies and Mark Addy, Mother’s Pride tells the story of a struggling West Country pub whose fortunes change when its owners start brewing their own beer and enter the Great British Beer Awards.
With Mother’s Day approaching this weekend, Mother’s Pride is quickly becoming a popular choice for families looking for a fun and uplifting trip to the cinema together. Its story of family, community and the enduring importance of the local pub has struck a chord with audiences looking for a big-hearted British comedy on the big screen.
