Review by Matthew Morlai Kamara
What begins as a familiar premise however quickly descends into fast-paced, absurd comedy, where no genre convention is left untouched.
The cast features Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell, whose breakout role in the original Scary Movie led to roles in various other movies and television series, such as The House Bunny and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. She is joined by Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks, known for standout performances in Girls Trip, The Best Man and Think like a Man. Not of course forgetting the extremely talented Wayans brothers Marlon and Shawn, returning here to their most popular franchise. Their influential comedy work includes huge hits such as White Chicks and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.
I found the script quite bold and inventive and the film exceeded my expectations, being full of plenty of energy and laugh out gags which will make any miserable individual burst out loud laughing. The cast fully commits with their over-the-top acting, delivering performances that keep the tone light and very entertaining throughout, making it pure, uncomplicated fun, designed solely to amuse you.
This year has been dominated by dark, heavy film releases. At a time when global news can feel overwhelming, this kind of light hearted escapism feels particularly valuable, offering audiences a chance to set aside their concerns and enjoy a simple, joyful experience. This is a well-crafted parody that delivers consistent laughs and provides exactly the uplifting escape many viewers are looking for.
