Charlotte Street Films is thrilled to announce that Eugene Jarecki, the director of THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN: Julian Assange and the Price of Truth will be presented with the first-ever Golden Globe Award for Documentary by CEO of the Golden Globes, Helen Hoehne at a prestigious ceremony at Soho House Holloway in West Hollywood on Wednesday 7th January.
Winner of the 10th Anniversary L’Oeil d’or prize at Cannes Film Festival 2025, THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN reveals the real story behind WikiLeaks — a tense, high-stakes investigation into truth, power, and the global fight for press freedom. Featuring never-before-seen footage and unprecedented access, the film unfolds like a real-life spy thriller, reminding us what is truly at stake when journalism becomes a crime.
Watermelon Pictures recently acquired the North American rights to the film and will release the film theatrically nationwide in the US this spring.
Director Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight, The House I Live In, Reagan, and The King) who is a two-time winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize as well as multiple Emmy and Peabody Awards said:
“Receiving this newly-introduced Golden Globe Award for documentary is not only an honor for me and my team, but, far more importantly, a signal from the Golden Globes, an organization comprised of journalists, that they see how vitally important the THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN is to everything we are seeing in today’s deeply concerning world.
There has been, in America and beyond, a global crackdown on journalism in recent years, which, after all, is the essence of our basic human right, to know what is going on in our world, and also what those in power are doing without our knowledge.
At the end of the day, WikiLeaks angered the powerful when it introduced a groundbreaking technology that allowed whistleblowers to share vital important information with the public, without having to fear for their personal safety. In the years since, it has become more and more dangerous to be a whistleblower or a journalist, and the visionary nature of WikiLeaks and its lightning-rod founder Mr. Assange have been borne out by time.
And so it is a particular honor to see the Golden Globes recognize in its award to me for this film, that the Assange story is a cautionary tale that should make all of us stand up for truth and for those who risk their own lives to bring it to us.”

THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN is directed by Eugene Jarecki, produced by Kathleen Fournier and Eugene Jarecki and executive produced by James Packer, Addison O’Dea and Mathilde Bonnefoy and features Julian Assange, Edward Snowden, Naomi Klein, Stella Assange, Pamela Anderson, Alan Duncan, Daniel Ellsberg, Jen Robinson, Nils Melzer, Rafael Correa and Sigurdur Thordarson.
Eugene Jarecki will be awarded the first ever Golden Globe Award for Documentary Wednesday 7th January 2026
